The build quality and sturdiness are all they’re cracked up to be. This bit of kit is strong and easy to handle.
As Dylan mentions, get a better set of straps: I went with Tie Gear and it makes all the difference in the world to ease of setup and pack-up.
Being that the awning is just so freakin large, the fabric does sag out on the edge of the main panel (the big rectangular bit). It’s just that by the time the fabric gets all the way to the edge of this massive awning, it’s not as taut as it is right next to the car.
This is something they need to sort out.
The bag is well made. Strong, durable, good solid zip and the branded tags on the zip handles make it that much easier to open and close the bag. They’ve thought it through.
The cabling for the front light has to run from a junction towards the back light. I ended up using the velcro tie straps as a guide for the light cable by doing them up and running the cable through them to keep it nice and neat.
All in all, solid bit of kit, built strong, and once they square away the sag in the outer fabric of the main section, it will be a perfect bit of kit.
Thanks for such a detailed review, Julian! This sort of real-world feedback is absolute gold. Stoked to hear you’re impressed with the build quality, strength and overall design of the 180 XL.
Great tip on the Tie Gear straps and the neat little cable setup too. That’ll definitely help others getting their awning set up. We also really appreciate the honest feedback about the sag on the outer edge of the main panel. We’ll make sure that feedback gets passed on to OPENROAD.
Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience and a few handy tips for other Off Track legends! 🤙
Cheers Legend,
